Also I’d be inclined to say that there is no intentional subtext and the aliens turning out to be evil is the least predictable plot twist. Still, if I was an arts student ( and thank god I’m not) I could probably see there’s something going on there. I’d say it’s more about trying to help the foreigners/alien refugees because you should but sometimes it’s not going to work out.

I agree there’s no intentional subtext. It seems to me an unfortunate confluence of different ideas and twists. In the end, only Sneed and Gwyneth (and that bloke at the start) die, and Gwyneth was probably doomed anyhow.
